Forget Tuchel and Pochettino — Carrick Is the Man for Manchester United
Manchester United are being urged to hand Michael Carrick the permanent managerial role following a strong run as interim boss. Michael Owen has publicly voiced his support, highlighting why the Red Devils should resist chasing big-name managers like Thomas Tuchel, Carlo Ancelotti, or Mauricio Pochettino.

Carrick was promoted to interim head coach after Ruben Amorim was dismissed in early 2026. The Portuguese manager’s rigid 3-4-2-1 system failed to spark improvement at Old Trafford, leading to his departure. Initially, Darren Fletcher filled in temporarily, before Carrick, a former United midfielder and assistant coach, took over. Under his guidance, United have won four consecutive matches, reigniting their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
Debate has emerged around whether Carrick deserves a full-time role regardless of the season’s outcome. Some pundits argue for a more experienced option, potentially targeting managers currently leading top national teams like England, Brazil, or the US ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Owen, speaking with GOAL via casino.org, explained why Carrick is the ideal candidate: “Manchester United have tried everything over the past decade—experienced coaches, ex-players, international names—but Carrick is delivering results. The team is playing with confidence, the fans are excited, and there’s a sense of stability. If he secures Champions League qualification, it would be unwise to replace him.”
Carrick is also a practical choice financially. Owen added, “He’s local, settled, speaks the language, and isn’t tied to another contract. Compared to high-profile managers, he’s cost-effective and ready to plan long-term. With others busy at the World Cup, Carrick is the one who can hit the ground running.”
Looking ahead, Carrick aims to extend his winning streak to five matches as United travel to face a struggling West Ham. The club is expected to finalize its managerial decision after the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
