FSG Sack Manager and Coaching Staff in Sweeping Overhaul by Liverpool Owners

‎A significant managerial change has taken place at the Boston Red Sox, with Fenway Sports Group opting to relieve Alex Cora of his duties alongside five members of his backroom staff.
‎The move arrives during a challenging stretch for the team, which has opened the season with 10 wins and 17 defeats. This development comes even after a commanding 17-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

‎Cora’s association with the Red Sox dates back to his playing career, and his managerial tenure began in October 2017. He quickly delivered success, leading the franchise to a World Series triumph in 2018. For now, Chad Tracy, who manages Triple-A Worcester, will take charge in an interim role.
‎Commenting on the decision, John Henry—principal owner of Liverpool FC—praised Cora’s lasting influence. He credited the manager for one of the most memorable seasons in the club’s history and acknowledged his leadership both on and off the field.
‎Henry admitted that the choice to part ways was not straightforward, particularly given Cora’s importance to the organization since his arrival. He also thanked the coaching staff and their families for their dedication and contributions beyond matchday duties.
‎Statistically, the final game under Cora stands out, as the 16-run margin of victory represents the largest for any manager’s last outing in the modern era of Major League Baseball.
‎This decision also breaks a long-standing pattern, marking the first time since August 2001—when Jimy Williams was dismissed—that the Red Sox have made a managerial change during an ongoing season.
‎Fenway Sports Group continues to oversee a diverse sports portfolio, including Liverpool FC, the Red Sox, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, as well as interests in NASCAR and the TMRW Golf League.
