Tottenham Sack Thomas Frank After Winless Streak Leaves Club Near Relegation Zone

‎Tottenham Hotspur have decided to dismiss head coach Thomas Frank following a poor spell of eight consecutive matches without a victory. The Danish manager only assumed control of the squad during the summer, but the team has struggled badly in the Premier League. A 2-1 home loss against Newcastle on Tuesday saw supporters once again boo the players off the pitch, leaving Spurs just five points clear of the relegation places.

‎Frank’s spell in charge has officially come to an end, with the club now exploring contingency options, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. The decision came after another damaging result — Tottenham’s 11th defeat in 26 Premier League fixtures this season — against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side. Frank joined Spurs during the summer to replace Ange Postecoglou and did guide the team to a strong fourth-place finish in the Champions League league phase. However, domestic results have been drastically different, with Tottenham failing to record a single Premier League win in 2026.
‎Tottenham confirmed Frank’s exit through an official club statement. It read:
‎"The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today. Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary. Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the Club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future."
‎Despite increasing speculation following the Newcastle defeat, Frank had insisted he believed he would remain in charge. Speaking to journalists after the game, he said he expected to be on the touchline for the next fixture. He explained that responsibility in football is shared between coaches, ownership, directors, players, and staff, rather than resting solely on one group.
‎Frank also expressed strong belief in his suitability for the role, saying he was “1,000% sure” he was the right man. He pointed to the club dealing with 10 or 11 injuries as a major factor in their struggles and stressed the importance of resilience and maintaining composure during difficult periods. While acknowledging that managerial sackings are common in football, he suggested research shows it is not always the correct solution, even if boards often see it as their primary option.
‎Frank had signed a three-year deal when he replaced Postecoglou, who departed after winning the Europa League but also presiding over Tottenham’s worst Premier League season, finishing 17th with 38 points. Tottenham are now facing another disappointing league campaign. Frank departs with an average of 1.12 points per Premier League game (29 points from 26 matches), the lowest of any Spurs manager to oversee five or more matches in the competition, according to Opta.
‎Tottenham will next play in the Premier League on February 22, giving the club time to plan their next move after Frank’s departure. Roberto De Zerbi has already been linked with the role after leaving Marseille following their 5-0 defeat to PSG. Spurs’ next fixture is a major north London derby at home against league leaders Arsenal.
