Amorim's worst defeat: Manchester United player ratings, Zirkzee and Casemiro criticized in Newcastle loss

For the first time in 63 years, the Red Devils suffered their fourth successive defeat in all competitions after a disastrous first half performance.

Joshua Zirkzee and Casemiro disgraced themselves in Manchester United's genuinely shambolic defeat against Newcastle, bringing the team's current low point into closer perspective. The final score was only 2-0, but it was humiliating since the Red Devils had one of their worst first-half performances in the Premier League.

Alexander Isak headed a high-flying Newcastle ahead in just the fourth minute following the hosts' poor defending, and Joelinton made it even easy to score the second. United looked very pathetic, and Ruben Amorim humiliated Zirkzee by removing him after only 33 minutes.

Kobbie Mainoo changed things, and in the second half, United looked at least a little like themselves, and they should have pulled one back. But nothing can erase the team's disastrous first 45 minutes or the fact that it has lost four straight games for the first time since 1961.

GOALKEEPER AND DEFENCE

Andre Onana (4/10)

Although he was not at fault for either goal, his confidence appeared to be shaken even before Newcastle grabbed the lead.

Matthijs de Ligt (4/10)

He seemed uncomfortable against Isak, and his passing was poor.

Harry Maguire (4/10)

Poor for Isak's goal. He attempted to reassemble the defence and presented an offensive threat, hitting the post with a header.

Lisandro Martinez (3/10)

Put up no fight against Isak or Joelinton and proved to be a burden while not in possession. His one saving grace was his deep passes, which created an excellent opportunity for Hojlund.

MIDFIELD

Noussair Mazraoui (3/10)

Had a terrible first half. Gordon tore them apart and continued misplacing passes.

Christian Eriksen (4/10)

Does not have the legs for a game like this. There were considerably worse culprits, but his lack of intensity aided Newcastle's cause.

Casemiro (2/10)

He kept overhitting passes, took a very long strike at goal, and missed an incredible sitter. It should have gone off much before the 64th minute.

Diogo Dalot (5/10)

He contributed to the better second-half performance, with the majority of the threat coming from his left side.

ATTACK

Amad Diallo (4/10)

Was weighed down by the air of skepticism about him, and throughout the first half, he appeared as disoriented as everyone else. In the second half, they regained some dignity.

Rasmus Hojlund (4/10)

In his single attempt, he missed a good chance. Had little understanding with his fellow attackers.

Joshua Zirkzee (1/10)

Looked completely out of place. His 33% pass success percentage tells it all, as does the fact that his 33rd-minute substitute was greeted with wild applause from the home crowd.

SUBS AND MANAGER

Kobbie Mainoo (6/10)

When he replaced Zirkzee, he restored United's identity by bringing some balance and thinking to the game.

Alejandro Garnacho (4/10)

Tried to save the game, but was easily dealt with.

Leny Yoro (5/10)

Helped to keep Newcastle's counterattacks under control.

Antony (n/a)

A late introduction that revealed Rashford's poor standing.

Ruben Amorim (3/10)

His tactics were completely incorrect, and despite being an idealogue, he needs to start modifying his ways or things will become far worse.
