Liverpool reach new contract agreement with star forward Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah is set to sign a new two-year deal with Liverpool, according to sources.

This season, the 32-year-old has been in excellent form for Arne Slot's side, scoring 15 goals and assisting 12 times in all competitions.

However, Salah has yet to commit to a new contract with the club, which means he may leave Anfield as a free agent at the end of the season.

Salah has previously hinted that this may be his final season at Liverpool, the most recent of which came following his team's 2-0 win against Manchester City at Anfield last Sunday.

'Honestly, it's in my thoughts,' Salah said. 'Until now, this is the last City game I'll play for Liverpool, so I'm just going to enjoy it.

'The atmosphere was fantastic, so I shall enjoy every moment here. Hopefully, we will win the league and see what happens.

But the Sunday Mirror reports that Liverpool and Salah have struck an agreement on a new two-year deal.

According to the article, a compromise was reached since Liverpool was only ready to provide a one-year contract, whilst Salah wanted a three-year agreement.

Earlier this week, former Arsenal and England player Paul Merson warned Liverpool against handing Salah a long-term agreement.

'We're only hearing it through the grapevine, but it's two years with a year option for Mo Salah. That's a long time," Merson told Sky Sports.

'I'd pay him 300-400 thousand each week right now. Of course, I would today because he is handling the company.

'I am his biggest admirer. I believe he's world-class. I'll say he gets into every team in the globe. He is a winger and the Premier League's leading scorer. The stats he produces week in and week out, year after year, are just incredible.

'But in two-and-a-half years, that's a lot of money to give someone if they don't do the business.'
