Man United star under fire from Ruben Amorim after Wolves clash

Ruben Amorim criticized Bruno Fernandes after his expulsion in Manchester United's loss against Wolves. On Boxing Day, the Red Devils suffered their third successive loss in all competitions, falling 2-0 at Molineux.

Fernandes received a second yellow card for a foul on Nelson Semedo, giving Wolves a man advantage for much the entire second half. Matheus Cunha then scored the first goal with a corner that sailed past Andre Onana and into the far corner.

Despite making forward substitutions, United were unable to produce an equaliser, and Wolves gained the three points they needed to escape the Premier League relegation zone with a goal from Hwang Hee-chan in the 98th minute. Fernandes has received his third red card in 27 appearances this season, with his lack of discipline proving expensive.

Reflecting on the setback, Amorim told Prime Video: "Of course, when you lose and we don't win, it's a step back. It was quite difficult with the sending off," adding that despite being down a man, they attempted to fight back but eventually failed.

When asked about Fernandes' red card, Amorim said, "I believe he cannot get to the ball. He's attempting to reach the ball, and other players aren't even looking at it, but I don't want to dwell on it. I believe the positive aspect is that we were close to the goal despite having just 10 men. That is a fantastic thing, but we lost," according to the Mirror.

Noting the difficulty of playing with fewer players, he continued: "Winning games in this league with 11 guys is really difficult. It gets more tough with ten men. That is what we need to focus on."

The coach expressed his dissatisfaction with the team's poor performance since succeeding Erik ten Hag, citing the players' inability to execute his game plan. Amorim continued, "We need to enhance our relationships, but we have some times.

"We lack a little aggressiveness, but we don't practice. We simply play and attempt to develop better ways to win games, and that's all. We can't control the games like the ones we lost before.

"I believe we were always in control of the game, if not always dominating, but at least controlling some aspects, such as set pieces. The send-off was quite difficult for us."

Amorim was expected to face questions over Marcus Rashford's continuing absence from the team. "It's always the same reason it's going to be," he said. "Whether we win or lose, we must remain the same professionals and people. Losing forces me to be stronger. I'll stick with my plan till the conclusion."
