Manchester United vs Rangers preview

Manchester United may move a significant step closer to a Europa League last-16 position tonight against Rangers.

This so-called 'Battle of Britain' will be the latest in a long line of meetings between English and Scottish teams in European play, and it may come at the perfect moment for Manchester United.

Despite losing four of their past five home games, they have performed significantly better in Europe, defeating PAOK and Bodo/Glimt in the 'Theatre of Dreams' thus far.

Another victory would put Ruben Amorim's team on the verge of qualifying for the knockout rounds, albeit playing a Rangers side with the same goal.

The Scottish team has previously drawn against Premier League opponents this season, a 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham on matchday six, and they, too, are in good position to go to the knockout stage.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Manchester United vs Rangers is scheduled for a 8pm GMT kick-off tonight, Thursday, January 23, 2025.

The match will take place at Old Trafford.

Manchester United vs Rangers team news

Manchester United may have endured a disappointing 3-1 home loss to Brighton last time out, but at least no new injury worries were raised.

Marcus Rashford is still at the club despite reports of his departure this month, but he may continue to be overlooked for a spot in the matchday squad.

Victor Lindelof has returned to training but will not play, while Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, and Jonny Evans are also out.

Mohamed Diomande is suspended for Rangers, and Tom Lawrence, John Souttar, Neraysho Kasanwirjo, and Dujon Sterling are all set to miss out.

Rafael Fernandes is ineligible, but Jack Butland is back in shape and will compete with Liam Kelly for the starting spot.

Manchester United vs Rangers prediction

Rangers are the more successful of the two teams in terms of results. They've gone seven games undefeated, and today is certainly their best opportunity to win away to Manchester United.

Having said that, the Red Devils have been a different possibility in the Europa League this season, and fans will expect a comeback following Sunday's setback. Expect goals in this one as the hosts pull ahead.

Manchester United to win 3-2.
