Enzo Maresca not certain if goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen will keep spot in Chelsea starting XI after expensive blunder victory to Aston Villa

Enzo Maresca warned that Filip Jorgensen may not start in the future after his gaffe lost Chelsea the game against Aston Villa.

Jorgensen's goalkeeping nightmare cost Chelsea precious points at Villa Park on Saturday, as they once again squandered points from a winning position. The visitors grabbed the lead in the ninth minute with Enzo Fernandez's goal, but Marco Asensio's second-half brace gave the Villans the three points. After equalising for his club just before the hour mark, the Paris Saint-Germain loanee scored the victory in the 89th minute with a shot that slipped under Jorgensen.

After the game, Maresca suggested that he would reinstall Robert Sanchez as the team's first-choice goalkeeper, telling reporters: "I don't know. At this moment, it is not today's mistake that I am going to change my mind about Filip in this moment. We will see.

"The keeper position is a delicate one. The striker can miss the goal and sometimes it doesn't look so important but when the keeper makes a mistake, it's always clear. We need to support each other, stay strong and work hard. In two days, we have one more game at home and hopefully, we can finally win in front of our fans."

Since joining Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer, Jorgensen has participated in 16 matches across all competitions, with the majority of them coming in cup tournaments. However, since the beginning of February, Maresca has begun to include him in the first eleven, and he has appeared in the club's past three Premier League games.

After suffering their second consecutive Premier League defeat, the London side will return to play on Tuesday, hosting Southampton in a key Premier League fixture.
