Manchester United fans have demanded that manager Ruben Amorim dismiss one first-team player immediately after the 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

United squandered a golden opportunity in the first half when Alejandro Garnacho shot over from a distance.

There were again complaints of Amorim's tactical structure and people in specific places, despite the fact that his team selection was heavily influenced by the absence of numerous senior players due to injury or sickness.

United's bench at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was entirely made up of academy players, with the exception of centre-back Victor Lindelof.

That meant Casemiro began his first Premier League game since December 28, but supporters were unimpressed with his return to the squad.

On Twitter, one fan wrote, "It's sad to say, but I'd rather take an academy kid over Casemiro right now."

Another said, "How is Casemiro still on the pitch? How have we made no substitutions?"

A third wrote: "Casemiro showing exactly why he's not favoured by Amorim."

Casemiro was replaced in injury time by 17-year-old attacker Chido Obi, but the rookie had little time to affect the game, with his first action assisting in the defence of a free kick.

The Brazilian midfielder is under contract with United until the summer of 2026 and is one of the club's best earners, having signed a four-year deal after joining from Real Madrid in 2022.

The 32-year-old had a strong debut season in United's midfield under Erik ten Hag, but his performance level fell last season.

During an injury crisis last season, Ten Hag occasionally switched him to centre-back, and Jamie Carragher slammed him following a 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace in May.

"Casemiro, I am being deadly serious, should know himself tonight, as an experienced player, that he should only have another three games at the top level," he began. "And thinking, 'I need to go to the MLS or Saudi'.

"I am nowhere near the level of what that man has achieved, but I always remember something when I retired.

"It was a saying I always remember as a footballer. 'Leave the football before the football leaves you'. The football has left him."
