‎Despite falling behind in the second leg of their last-16 tie at Old Trafford, United quickly regained control thanks to two penalties from Fernandes, followed by his hat-trick goal that gave them a commanding lead. Diogo Dalot sealed the win with a stoppage-time strike, further cementing United’s progression to the quarter-finals, where they will face Lyon. This victory provides a glimmer of hope in what has otherwise been a challenging season for the club.
‎Ahead of Thursday’s game, Ruben Amorim’s side had struggled, winning just once in their previous six matches. Now, Fernandes has called on his teammates to channel this momentum into positive results for the remainder of the season.
‎"This club is all about winning," Fernandes told TNT Sports. "We need to win games. We have a long way to go, but if we focus on every game ahead with the right mentality, we can achieve success. Confidence is key, and with this performance, we are seeing good progress. But ultimately, progress is measured by results. At this club, it’s all about results."
‎Manchester United now shift their focus back to the Premier League, with hopes of continuing their resurgence when they face a struggling Leicester side this Sunday. The match will also see former interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy return to Old Trafford as Leicester’s coach.
