Why Aston Villa could lose Marcus Rashford amid persistent Barcelona interest
Aston Villa's hopes of securing Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal are under serious threat, with Barcelona still monitoring the Manchester United loanee's situation closely. The England international has experienced a rejuvenation in form since his January loan switch to Villa Park, becoming an instrumental part of Unai Emery’s squad and regaining much of the confidence lost during his difficult spell at Old Trafford.

Rashford, who joined Aston Villa on a six-month loan deal, has impressed both fans and staff, with Emery reportedly eager to retain the forward’s services beyond the current campaign. However, several obstacles may prevent the Villans from executing a full transfer—chief among them, Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions and the striker’s substantial wage demands.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Villa do possess a £40 million ($49m) buy-out option. But triggering the clause may hinge on the club’s final standing in the Premier League and their qualification for European competition. Rashford's £350,000-a-week salary remains another potential stumbling block, as it could significantly impact Villa’s wage structure.
Adding further complexity to the situation is fresh interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants, under the guidance of new manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco, are reportedly long-time admirers of the England forward. Barcelona’s pursuit of Rashford could gain momentum should Ansu Fati leave Camp Nou this summer, potentially opening a door for the Blaugrana to make a formal offer.
To complicate matters, Rashford recently sustained a hamstring injury, casting doubt over whether he will feature again for Villa this season. The setback occurred just before their FA Cup semi-final loss to Crystal Palace, sidelining him for a critical part of Villa's end-of-season run-in.
