Manchester United confirm £62.5m Matheus Cunha deal in first move of Amorim era

‎Manchester United have officially confirmed the £62.5 million signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, in what marks the club’s first major move of the summer transfer window. The Red Devils activated Cunha’s release clause on June 1, the very first day of business, underlining new manager Rúben Amorim’s intent to revitalise a side that limped to an underwhelming finish last season.

‎The 26-year-old forward joins United following an impressive individual campaign at Wolves, where he notched 15 goals and six assists in all competitions. Despite Wolverhampton’s disappointing 16th-place finish — level on points with United — Cunha was a standout performer, combining flair, physicality and clinical finishing.
‎ “Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha,” read a statement on the club's official website. “The Brazilian forward’s signing is subject to visa and registration.”
‎A seasoned talent, Cunha boasts 13 caps for Brazil and a well-travelled club career across Europe. His resume includes stints in Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and England, amassing 72 goals in 270 senior appearances.
‎This high-profile signing signals the beginning of Rúben Amorim’s rebuilding project at Old Trafford, as he looks to restore United’s competitive edge domestically and in Europe. With question marks over the futures of several senior players, Cunha’s arrival could be the first of many changes.
‎Cunha is expected to debut in United colours during their pre-season tour, with a potential first appearance lined up against rivals Leeds United on July 19.
‎Fans will be hoping Cunha can bring fresh energy to a United frontline that has struggled for consistency. At 26, he offers a blend of experience and dynamism — a player seemingly tailor-made for Amorim’s aggressive, front-foot style.
