Claudio Echeverri Joins Bayer Leverkusen on Loan from Manchester City: Midfield Reinforcement for Bundesliga

‎Manchester City midfielder Claudio Echeverri will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen. The 19-year-old Argentine joins Leverkusen in a deal that does not include a buy option, with the German club paying a loan fee to City.

‎Borussia Dortmund also submitted a loan proposal for Echeverri, which included a purchase option. Manchester City rejected this approach, signaling the club’s high regard for the young midfielder.
‎Echeverri arrived at Manchester City from River Plate in January 2024 for a reported £12.5 million plus add-ons. He returned to Argentina on loan for the rest of that calendar year before making his debut for City in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace, coming on as a late substitute.
‎The midfielder also appeared in City’s final Premier League game of the season against Fulham and scored in the Club World Cup against Al-Ain, though injury cut his tournament participation short.
‎Manchester City strengthened their squad this summer, bringing in midfield and attacking talents including Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, and Sverre Nypan. Departures such as James McAtee to Nottingham Forest for £30 million and Jack Grealish on a season-long loan to Everton have altered the competition for minutes in the squad.
‎Bayer Leverkusen have been active in the transfer market as well. High-profile exits like Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, who both joined Liverpool, have created opportunities for reinforcements. Players like Malik Tillman, Jarell Quansah, and Ernest Poku have already joined under new head coach Erik ten Hag, with Echeverri adding further quality to the Bundesliga side.
