‎The Athletic reported that both clubs reached a fee in principle for Antony’s permanent move back to Betis, where he spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan. Negotiations intensified over recent weeks due to disagreements about the salary reduction Antony would face upon leaving Old Trafford, but United have now confirmed they will not make any further payments to the player.

‎Antony’s revival at Real Betis was a key factor in the transfer. During his loan spell, the winger recorded nine goals and five assists in 26 matches, playing a vital role in helping Manuel Pellegrini’s squad reach the UEFA Europa Conference League final. Betis ultimately fell 4-1 to Chelsea in the decisive match, but Antony’s influence was widely recognized.

‎The Brazilian originally joined Manchester United in August 2023 under Erik ten Hag in a deal worth €95 million plus €5 million in potential add-ons. His debut season at Old Trafford saw him score eight goals and provide three assists across all competitions. However, his form declined over the following campaigns, leading to limited playing time and eventual departure.

‎Sources indicate Betis will pay €25 million with an additional €3 million in performance-related bonuses. United will retain 50 percent of any profit Betis generate should Antony be sold in the future. The winger, who has two years remaining on his £6 million-a-year contract with United, is negotiating to cover a €4 million shortfall in wages as part of the move.

‎Betis pursued Antony throughout the summer transfer window, viewing him as a crucial addition to Pellegrini’s project. Their persistence followed Antony’s candid comments in May, when he admitted in a TNT Sports Brazil interview that he struggled with motivation and well-being at United. He described his time at Old Trafford as a period when he “wasn’t happy” and had “lost the desire to play football,” crediting his loan at Betis for helping him rediscover confidence.
