‎The Blues had identified Maignan as their top goalkeeping target and were reported to be preparing a deal worth around €18 million. According to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Luca Bianchin, Chelsea hoped to secure the shot-stopper for their Club World Cup campaign, but the move collapsed once Allegri requested that Milan retain their captain’s goalkeeper.
‎The decision also impacted negotiations involving Strasbourg right-back Guela Doue. AC Milan removed Maignan from the transfer market, a stance that complicated talks with Strasbourg, a club affiliated with Chelsea.
‎Italian journalist Daniele Longo reports that Chelsea’s interest in Maignan has not diminished. The France international, who has entered the final year of his contract with Milan, is not planning to extend his stay. Unless an agreement is reached, he is expected to become a free agent in 2026, keeping the Premier League side alert to his future availability.
