‎Marc Guehi Stays at Crystal Palace as Liverpool Deadline Day Deal Collapses

‎Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is set to remain at Selhurst Park after a proposed deadline day move to Liverpool broke down. The England international had completed part of a medical and agreed personal terms on a five-year deal until 2030, with both clubs settling on a £35 million transfer fee.

‎Head coach Oliver Glasner was clear in his opposition to Guehi’s sale, insisting that the centre-back could not be released unless Palace secured a suitable replacement. The club managed to finalize a deal for 18-year-old Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse before the deadline, but their pursuit of Fiorentina defender Igor Julio fell through.
‎Liverpool submitted a deal sheet to extend negotiations beyond the 7 p.m. UK deadline, yet no replacement was secured in time. As a result, Guehi is expected to remain with Palace, where his current contract runs until the end of the season. Should his deal expire without renewal, the 25-year-old would be free to leave as a free agent next summer.
‎Guehi played a full 90 minutes in Palace’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, scoring the second goal of the match. Glasner praised his professionalism afterward, reiterating the importance of keeping his captain at the club.
‎Speaking to reporters, Glasner emphasized that the agreement with Palace’s board required a replacement before any sale could go through. With no arrival secured, he stated that Guehi’s presence was vital to the team’s ambitions this season.
‎Since joining from Chelsea in 2021, Guehi has made 155 appearances for Palace and captained the side to their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City at Wembley in May, the club’s first major trophy. He has also earned 23 caps for England, playing a key role in the squad that reached the Euro 2024 final.
