Do Real Madrid Want Erling Haaland? Los Blancos' True Position on a Blockbuster Man City Move
Real Madrid’s position regarding a sensational move for Erling Haaland has now come to light. The Spanish giants have long been associated with the prolific Norwegian striker, who fits perfectly into the club’s famed “Galactico” profile. However, despite persistent speculation, there is currently no plan to launch an immediate bid for the Manchester City forward, largely because Kylian Mbappe is already delivering at elite level in La Liga.
Real Madrid’s official stance on a potential Erling Haaland transfer has emerged, with Kylian Mbappe’s form playing a key role as Manchester City secure their star striker long term.

When Haaland left Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Real Madrid were among the clubs monitoring his availability. Instead, the highly sought-after striker chose to join Manchester City, following the path once taken by his father, Alf Inge Haaland, by moving to England.
That decision quickly paid off. Haaland enjoyed a dream debut season at the Etihad Stadium, helping City claim the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League treble. He has since sustained outstanding individual performances, securing the Premier League title twice and winning the Golden Boot on both occasions.
Haaland’s scoring output at City has been nothing short of historic. He became the fastest player to reach 100 Premier League goals, achieving the feat in just 111 matches. Overall, he has scored 149 goals in 169 appearances for the club.
His remarkable form during the 2025–26 season has also propelled Norway to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking their first appearance at the tournament since 1998. Across club and country, the 25-year-old has netted 38 goals in 28 games this season, underlining why he remains one of the most feared forwards in world football.
Such statistics naturally keep him on Real Madrid’s radar, and talk of a future move to the Santiago Bernabeu continues to surface. However, Manchester City have secured Haaland on a long-term contract that runs until 2034, ensuring they are in no rush to part ways with their prized asset.
Reports indicate that City’s resolve will not be tested by Real Madrid anytime soon. Transfer insider Ekrem Konur has stated that the Spanish club are not currently considering a move for Haaland, believing their attacking needs are already met. He wrote on social media that Real Madrid see Mbappe as sufficient cover up front.
Mbappe has indeed been producing impressive numbers since arriving in Madrid. The France international has scored 29 goals in 24 appearances this season, often providing a spark for a team that has occasionally struggled for consistency as a unit.
Since joining Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2024, Mbappe has primarily operated as a central striker. Previously more comfortable on the left wing—where he became Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time leading scorer—the World Cup winner has adapted seamlessly, scoring 73 goals in 83 matches for Los Blancos.
With Mbappe under contract until 2029, Real Madrid feel no urgency to recruit another out-and-out No.9. While a move for Haaland could be revisited in the future, it is not on the agenda at present.
There is also no certainty that Haaland would entertain offers even if they arrived. Manchester City provide him with the platform to compete for major honours, showcase his talent and potentially rewrite football history.
Former Premier League striker Marlon Harewood recently shared his view, suggesting Haaland has little reason to leave. He noted that only a handful of clubs—such as Barcelona, Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain—could afford him, adding that City remain an ideal environment for the striker to continue breaking records.
Haaland himself has repeatedly expressed his happiness at Manchester City, easing any concerns about an imminent departure. While he will always be linked with elite clubs like Real Madrid, he is doing little to encourage speculation and appears fully focused on his career at the Etihad Stadium.
