‎Amorim has already confirmed that United are open to making additions during the winter window, but only if the right long-term options become available. The focus, he insists, is not on short-term fixes but on building for the future.

‎As the January market approaches, speculation continues to surround United’s potential transfer activity. Clubs across Europe are preparing to strengthen their squads once the window reopens on New Year’s Day, and United are no exception.

‎According to reports from The Guardian, United have identified central midfield as a priority area. Al-Hilal’s Ruben Neves, Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher and Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams are all believed to be on the club’s shortlist.

‎During the summer, United were keen to sign a defensive midfielder but ultimately walked away from talks for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba. The club were reportedly deterred by the midfielder’s £100 million (€114m/$133m) valuation.

‎Brighton owner Tony Bloom later confirmed United’s interest, explaining in October that the club made an approach before being informed Baleba was not for sale. Bloom also highlighted the player’s significant development and importance to Brighton this season.

‎While midfield remains a key focus, Amorim has also acknowledged that United are monitoring options across multiple positions. However, their pursuit of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo appears set to end in disappointment.

‎The Athletic reported that United were pushing hard to sign the Ghana international, but the same outlet has since claimed the 25-year-old prefers a move to rivals Manchester City. Semenyo is believed to have a £65 million (€74m/$87m) release clause that can be activated before January 10.

‎The report also stated that Chelsea dropped out of the race after an initial enquiry, while Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have both been linked with the former Bristol City attacker.

‎Speaking ahead of United’s recent clash with Aston Villa, Amorim reiterated that any January business must align with the club’s long-term vision. He made it clear that potential signings would not be brought in simply to cover short-term absences caused by AFCON call-ups or injuries.

‎Amorim explained that even if United do move for a player, it may not necessarily be in their most urgent position of need. His primary focus, he said, remains on preparing the team for upcoming matches and adapting their style of play following the temporary loss of key characteristics in the squad.

‎The former Sporting CP coach has also urged United to avoid repeating previous recruitment errors by ensuring complete alignment between the club and any incoming players. In his view, uncertainty over a player’s commitment is reason enough to step away from a deal.

‎In an interview with Sky Sports ahead of United’s Boxing Day Premier League meeting with Newcastle United, Amorim said the club has room to strengthen but must remain disciplined. He added that if everyone involved is not fully aligned, it is better to trust the current squad rather than make a rushed signing.

‎Amorim acknowledged that this cautious approach may differ from that of other managers, but insisted it reflects both his own philosophy and that of the club’s hierarchy. He also pointed out that United will soon be boosted by players returning from international duty and injury.

‎United now turn their attention to a crucial home clash against Newcastle on December 26 as they look to return to winning ways. Amorim’s side suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend, despite a strong performance, following an entertaining 4-4 draw away at Bournemouth on December 15.

‎Newcastle, meanwhile, could draw level on points with seventh-placed United if they secure victory at Old Trafford. Eddie Howe’s side sit 11th in the table and have been beaten just once in their last seven matches across all competitions.
