‎Chelsea Without Cole Palmer vs Pafos as Rosenior Confirms Minor Injury Setback

‎Cole Palmer will not feature for Chelsea in their Champions League meeting with Pafos on Wednesday night, with manager Liam Rosenior revealing the reasons behind the attacker’s omission. Chelsea begin the match in 14th place in the table but understand that three points could put them firmly in the race for a top-eight finish.

‎The England international has struggled for continuity this season, having made only 13 appearances due to ongoing injury concerns. Rosenior has again been forced to plan without his talisman and has introduced six changes to his side. His attacking unit features Liam Delap, Alejandro Garnacho, Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez, while the contest represents Rosenior’s first experience managing in the Champions League.
‎Speaking ahead of kick-off, Rosenior clarified Palmer’s situation to TNT Sports. He said the forward suffered a very small strain in the previous game, describing it as a fatigue-related problem rather than a serious injury. The Chelsea boss expressed optimism that Palmer could return in time for Sunday’s Premier League clash at Crystal Palace, stressing the importance of managing workloads during a busy period.
‎Rosenior also discussed his defensive selections after opting for a completely different back four. Jorrel Hato, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Malo Gusto were all included, with the manager pointing to recent performances and the need to rotate amid a congested fixture list. He praised Filip Jorgensen and Hato for their displays against Charlton and highlighted the quality and versatility available throughout his squad.
‎Illness within the camp has also influenced team selection, according to Rosenior, who reiterated his confidence in the players chosen to handle different tactical challenges. He noted that previous defensive pairings had been used for specific opponents and situations, underlining the depth he has at his disposal.
‎Wednesday’s tie also sees David Luiz return to Stamford Bridge, albeit on the Pafos bench. The former Chelsea defender spoke warmly about being back at the club, saying it felt special to face Chelsea again in European competition and to reconnect with familiar faces from his time there.
‎Luiz reflected on his spell with the Blues, naming the Champions League triumph in Munich as the standout moment of his career. He also recalled his first goal at Stamford Bridge against Manchester United as a memory that helped define his understanding of the club’s identity.
‎Chelsea’s focus now turns to Sunday’s league visit to Selhurst Park, where they hope Palmer will be available. After that, the Blues will travel to Napoli for their final Champions League group-stage encounter.
