‎Ethan Nwaneri Joins Marseille on Loan: Arsenal Teen to Link Up with Greenwood and Aubameyang

‎Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri is poised to move to Marseille on a loan deal for the rest of the season after both clubs finalized terms. The 18-year-old midfielder will work under coach Roberto De Zerbi in Ligue 1, a move encouraged by Mikel Arteta to accelerate his development. The loan comes with a significant fee, potentially reaching €4 million depending on playing time.

‎The French side has agreed to cover Nwaneri’s wages entirely, alongside paying a sizable loan fee for the six-month spell. According to Fabrizio Romano, the overall package could total around €4 million, with a clause adjusting the fee based on the number of appearances Nwaneri makes.
‎The midfielder is expected to travel to France shortly to complete his medical and sign official documents. He remains with the Arsenal squad for their upcoming Champions League fixture against Inter Milan, with plans for him to fly to Marseille immediately after the European match.
‎Arteta played a pivotal role in orchestrating the move, believing that De Zerbi’s tactical setup at Marseille offers the perfect environment for Nwaneri’s growth. Conversations between both clubs’ managers ensured a clear plan for his utilization, confirming Marseille as the optimal destination for his progression compared to other options.
‎Arsenal have a proven history of sending young talents to Ligue 1 for development, most notably William Saliba. Saliba’s time at Nice and Marseille helped him adapt to top-flight football before returning to Arsenal as a Premier League-ready defender. Nwaneri is expected to follow a similar pathway, gaining valuable experience in a competitive league while bridging the gap from academy to senior football.
‎Having broken records as the youngest-ever Premier League player, Nwaneri has found game time limited in Arsenal’s title-chasing squad. A move to the Championship was considered, but Ligue 1’s technical and physical demands are viewed as a better fit for his style. At Marseille, he will be tested in a high-stakes environment, playing before passionate fans in one of Europe’s most intense stadiums.
‎Additionally, Nwaneri will reunite with familiar Premier League faces, joining Mason Greenwood and former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Orange Velodrome. Aubameyang’s experience and understanding of the Arsenal legacy could provide a unique mentorship opportunity. Training and playing alongside these established attackers will help Nwaneri refine his movement, creativity, and tactical awareness.
