Palmer, who was raised in Manchester and supported United as a child despite emerging from Manchester City’s academy, has recently been connected with a potential switch to Old Trafford.
Over recent weeks, multiple reports have claimed the England international is struggling to settle in London and is allegedly feeling “homesick,” prompting talk that United could become a serious option should he ever leave Chelsea.
Rosenior addressed those claims last week when asked directly whether Palmer was unhappy. The Chelsea boss insisted the midfielder is content at the club, explaining that he has spoken with the player several times and views him as central to Chelsea’s long-term project, describing him as an exceptional talent.
The topic resurfaced ahead of Chelsea’s decisive Champions League fixture away to Napoli, where Rosenior was asked whether he had received any guarantees from the club’s hierarchy regarding Palmer’s future.
In response, Rosenior made his stance crystal clear, stating that there was no need for reassurances because the speculation had no basis. He described the rumours as unrealistic, saying there was no substance to them and no reason to even entertain discussions about a potential sale.
He added that Palmer remains happy at Chelsea and is focused on improving his performances, as are the coaching staff, who are working on strengthening the team as a whole. Rosenior stressed that Palmer enjoys being at the club and wants to continue his career in blue, while acknowledging that although transfer gossip is unavoidable, some stories are simply far removed from reality.
Rosenior also suggested the timing of the rumours was unsurprising, noting that speculation often follows managerial changes and can create unnecessary noise around players. He reiterated that Palmer is settled, satisfied, and remains an integral part of the squad.
Despite reports claiming Palmer might be open to a United move, The Daily Telegraph recently stated that Chelsea regard the No.10 as untouchable and are determined to keep him for at least the remainder of the decade. Palmer is contracted to the club until 2033, when he will be 31 years old.
On the pitch, Palmer could make his return soon. After missing Chelsea’s last two matches due to injury, he has travelled with the squad to Naples and is hopeful of being fit for Wednesday’s clash with Napoli, now managed by former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.
Chelsea know that a win would secure a top-eight finish and automatic qualification for the Champions League last 16, while Napoli enter the match outside the top 24 and must claim victory to keep their play-off hopes alive.
