'I Want to Extend My Contract!': Gabriel Jesus Begs Arsenal to Secure His Future and Win Titles
Gabriel Jesus has confirmed that he wants Arsenal to extend his contract, while also sharing details of the difficult injury spell he has endured at the Emirates Stadium. The Brazil international is under contract with the Gunners until 2027, but as that deal edges closer to its final stages, he has been linked with a possible return to Palmeiras. Despite those reports, the former Manchester City attacker has made it clear his priority is to remain in north London and chase major titles with Mikel Arteta’s side.

Since his arrival from Manchester City in 2022, Jesus’ Arsenal career has been repeatedly disrupted by injuries. The 28-year-old has missed more than 70 matches due to fitness problems, including a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for much of last year. He made his long-awaited return in December and admitted the rehabilitation process tested him both physically and mentally.
Speaking last month, he said:
“In the first three months, I had a lot of doubts in my head, and then I could be more focused on what God wants from me. Everyone was expecting me to score, and obviously, I wanted to score. I had some opportunities, but even with that, I'm so happy and so pleased, because to come back and then to have some touches that I had tonight, and then the way I could move, the way I could keep the ball. So with 11 months of helping myself and then feeling scared to come back different, maybe with some limitations, just to walk outside and then play with the boys, I'm so pleased. I feel more than ready. So, I'm here to say God saved my life.”
Having impressed during recent matches, Jesus has now declared his intention to commit his future to Arsenal, with his current contract set to expire in just under 18 months.
The forward has represented the club 107 times, scoring 27 goals and providing 21 assists. In the current season, he has made 11 appearances and contributed to two goals. With Arsenal currently leading the Premier League and performing strongly in the Champions League, the 5ft 9in attacker is focused on lifting silverware this campaign.
Discussing his long-term ambitions, he explained:
“This is my fourth season at Arsenal and unfortunately I played maybe one-and-a-half or two seasons, and then the rest with injuries. That never happened with me before, but happens here (at Arsenal), I don't know why. My first target is to be healthy from now until the end of the season. And then obviously, like I said before, my wish is to stay at Arsenal. I have a contract as well. I want to extend my contract, I want to stay, I want to win trophies with Arsenal because I came here with a purpose and that's it.”
Jesus also defended team-mate Viktor Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal from Sporting CP last summer for an initial £55 million ($74m). Although supporters were thrilled by the signing, the Sweden international has struggled to replicate his previous scoring form, managing eight goals in 26 appearances after netting 97 times in 102 games for the Portuguese club.
Amid growing criticism of the former Coventry City striker, Jesus offered his backing:
“Vik is an amazing player. He's a striker who can score goals every time, at every minute. I have been in the position that Vik is now, and that is not easy. But I'm sure that everyone here, not only the coach and staff, the players as well, are going to support him and give him the belief that he's here to help us. He has helped already a lot. And every game he has helped with something (aside from) sometimes not scoring, but he helped with another movement or fighting to win the game.”
Up next, both Jesus and Gyokeres are expected to be in contention for Arsenal’s Champions League away clash against Inter Milan on Tuesday night, before a Premier League meeting with Manchester United on Sunday.
