‎Jadon Sancho Sends Message to Man Utd After First Aston Villa Goal in Europa League Breakthrough

‎Jadon Sancho appeared to aim a subtle dig at his former Manchester United managers after netting his first goal for Aston Villa and praising Unai Emery’s faith in him.
‎The winger sealed a 1-0 victory over Fenerbahce on Thursday night, scoring the decisive goal that booked Villa’s place in the Europa League last 16. While the strike ended his scoring drought, it was Sancho’s post-match reflections that drew the most attention, particularly his comments about finally feeling trusted by a manager.

‎Sancho headed in during the 25th minute in Istanbul, a rare type of finish for the wide player, marking his first goal since joining Villa on loan. Speaking after the match, he credited Emery for providing the encouragement he felt had been missing in recent seasons.
‎“He just keeps telling me to stay positive every time I play,” Sancho said. “It’s nice to have a manager who supports you and truly believes in you. Whenever I get a chance, I’ll give everything and hopefully produce more goals.”
‎Those remarks offered a sharp contrast to the final stages of his time at Old Trafford. His relationship with United deteriorated under Erik ten Hag, culminating in a public dispute and removal from first-team contention. A loan move back to Borussia Dortmund followed, then a temporary spell at Chelsea, but his return to Manchester last summer failed to bring a fresh beginning.
‎Under Ruben Amorim, Sancho’s prospects worsened further. After returning from Chelsea, he was placed among five players deemed surplus and did not make a single appearance before completing his loan switch to Villa.
‎With his United contract expiring in June — the same time his Villa loan ends — Sancho is now playing for his future. Although United have the option to extend his deal by a year, his comments suggest little desire to return to a club where he felt sidelined.
‎Despite scoring the winner, Sancho insisted he expects more from himself. He admitted that while opening his Villa account was important, he knows his overall performance must improve.
‎“I take it day by day in training,” he said. “The staff and my teammates are helping me reach my best level. I know I can do much more. I’m grateful for this first goal and I hope it’s the start of something.”
‎He remained a constant attacking presence in Turkey before being withdrawn late to conserve energy. The well-timed header hinted at the rediscovery of instincts that once made him one of Europe’s most coveted young attackers.
‎Sancho later revealed the goal had a playful backstory, explaining he pointed to the bench after scoring as part of an inside joke with teammates Ezri Konsa and Ian Maatsen, who had teased him about never scoring headers in training.
‎The result proved vital for Villa, securing Europa League qualification with a game to spare after a disappointing domestic defeat. Emery’s side now return focus to the Premier League, sitting third but recovering from a surprise loss to Everton.
‎They travel to Newcastle on Sunday in what could shape their title ambitions as they attempt to close the gap on leaders Arsenal. Emery will hope Sancho’s breakthrough sparks momentum as Villa chase silverware on multiple fronts.
