‎Man United Transfer News: Cole Palmer Open to Chelsea Exit as Homesickness Sparks Old Trafford Interest

‎Cole Palmer may be prepared to consider a summer departure from Chelsea, with a return to Manchester reportedly appealing to the England international. After leaving Manchester City for Stamford Bridge in 2023, the forward has established himself as one of Chelsea’s standout performers. Despite his success, sources claim Palmer is unsettled in London and would be receptive to a move back north once the campaign concludes.

‎Since arriving from City two and a half years ago, Palmer has delivered an impressive 41 goals and 19 assists for the Blues. Those contributions have elevated him to “untouchable” status within the club, meaning any interested party would need to present a substantial offer before Chelsea even contemplate a sale.
‎Nevertheless, reports suggest the 23-year-old is struggling with life away from home. According to The Sun, Palmer is missing Manchester and would welcome the opportunity to join boyhood side Manchester United. His season has also been disrupted by a lingering groin issue, limiting him to only 12 league appearances. He was also omitted from the squad during Chelsea’s victory over Crystal Palace.
‎In that match, goals from Estevao, Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez saw Chelsea establish a commanding three-goal advantage. Palace responded late through Chris Richards after Adam Wharton received a red card in the 72nd minute.
‎Despite the speculation, Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior insists Palmer remains content at the club. Speaking last week, Rosenior said he had held several discussions with the player and stressed that Palmer is “very happy” in west London. He reaffirmed Palmer’s importance to the club’s long-term plans and dismissed injury struggles as a reflection of form or quality.
‎At Manchester United, recruitment planning is already underway. Director of football Jason Wilcox, who previously oversaw Palmer’s development at City’s academy, has long believed the attacker possesses Ballon d’Or potential. Working alongside Omar Berrada, Wilcox will help shape United’s transfer strategy this summer.
‎A return to Manchester City appears unlikely, with Palmer reportedly opposed to rejoining Pep Guardiola’s side. Instead, Old Trafford could be a more realistic destination, especially as uncertainty surrounds the future of club captain Bruno Fernandes.
‎Fernandes, who has 18 months remaining on his contract, was previously linked with Saudi side Al-Hilal but declined their offer. He is again being linked with an exit, and United are preparing talks with the midfielder ahead of the World Cup as they prepare for major midfield investment.
‎Several departures are expected. Casemiro is set to leave at season’s end, while Manuel Ugarte’s place in the squad remains unclear following difficulties securing a regular starting role.
‎Meanwhile, United are enjoying an impressive revival under interim boss Michael Carrick. Appointed as Ruben Amorim’s successor until the end of the season, Carrick guided United to a 2-0 derby victory over City, courtesy of goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu.
‎That success was followed by a thrilling 3-2 win away to Arsenal. After Lisandro Martinez’s own goal gave the hosts the lead, Mbeumo and Dorgu turned the match around. Mikel Merino equalised late, but Matheus Cunha struck the decisive goal minutes from time.
‎The victory extended United’s unbeaten run to six matches and lifted them above Chelsea into the top four. Next on the agenda is a home fixture against Fulham as momentum continues to build.
