‎Xabi Alonso Leaves Real Madrid but Backs Trent Alexander-Arnold to Deliver More

‎Xabi Alonso’s time at Real Madrid never appeared disastrous, yet the standards at the Bernabeu leave little room for patience. It did not take long for scrutiny to intensify around the former Liverpool star.
‎Alonso publicly addressed his exit through social media, stating that the professional chapter had ended without meeting expectations. He described managing Real Madrid as both a privilege and a serious responsibility.

‎He went on to thank the club, the players, and particularly the supporters for their confidence and backing, adding that he leaves with dignity, appreciation, and pride in his efforts.
‎One of Alonso’s key additions during his tenure was Trent Alexander-Arnold, signed from Liverpool shortly before his deal expired so he could participate in the Club World Cup.
‎Shortly before stepping away, Alonso shared his belief that Alexander-Arnold’s best performances for Real Madrid are still to come, especially during the second half of the campaign.
‎Addressing the media, Alonso pointed to the defender’s physical recovery, noting that playing full matches against Elche and Olympiacos was a positive development after injury.
‎He underlined Trent’s importance to the squad and explained that adjusting during a first season at a new club is entirely normal.
‎Alonso also praised Alexander-Arnold’s mentality, stating that the player is beginning to feel like himself again and continues to push standards at the highest level. He emphasized the need for collective support during such a significant transition.
‎Speculation around Alonso’s future began immediately after his departure. Should Pep Guardiola exit Manchester City this summer, Alonso could be considered as a potential replacement.
‎Although his stint in Madrid fell short of expectations, Alonso’s achievements at Bayer Leverkusen remain a major asset, highlighted by an unbeaten Bundesliga title.
‎With experience in both Germany and Spain, a return to English football appears plausible. Many Liverpool supporters would welcome the idea of Alonso eventually taking charge at Anfield.
‎As for Real Madrid’s next manager, Jurgen Klopp has been linked with the role. However, he recently stated that he is satisfied with his current position within the Red Bull organization.
