‎Mainoo has re-established himself in Manchester United’s lineup and is now regularly starting under Michael Carrick. During Ruben Amorim’s time in charge, the midfielder struggled for minutes, which fuelled speculation that he was unhappy and might consider leaving. Recently, however, Mainoo has started three consecutive matches, helping United secure wins against Arsenal, Manchester City and Fulham. The latest victory saw United climb back into the top four following a dramatic contest. Fulham had levelled the score at 2-2 in the 91st minute through a spectacular effort from Kevin before Sesko quickly responded with the winning goal.
‎Carrick described the result as extremely important after the match. He highlighted Fulham’s strength and their close position in the league table. According to Carrick, the idea of certain fixtures being “big games” is simply part of football narratives, as every match must be approached with equal seriousness. He said the team prepared properly and stayed focused despite outside expectations, eventually achieving the desired result.
‎Iwobi later shared his experience playing against Mainoo and explained how the injury occurred. Speaking on his matchday vlog, he jokingly credited Mainoo before saying the midfielder completely damaged his hand, adding playfully that the United player has powerful Ghanaian strength.
‎The Fulham winger also discussed the overall match performance. He said Fulham did well to fight back and mentioned controversial VAR decisions. He suggested VAR was harsh on Fulham at one point, though it also denied United a penalty. He also mentioned uncertainty over a moment involving Samuel Chukwueze and a potential offside call. Iwobi praised Kevin for scoring his first goal, calling it incredible, and highlighted Raul Jimenez’s reliability when taking penalties. He admitted Fulham were disappointed to concede so late but thanked fans for their support.
‎Mainoo appears to be one of the players who has gained the most since Amorim’s exit and is now focused on securing a permanent role in Carrick’s starting lineup for the rest of the 2025-26 season.
‎Carrick has made it clear he wants to continue helping Mainoo develop. He said the midfielder is still young and has already faced both positive and negative moments, which are important for growth. Carrick related to Mainoo’s journey based on his own playing career, explaining that such experiences help players become stronger and more mature. He described Mainoo as entertaining to watch and stressed the importance of managing pressure at the top level. Carrick also pointed out Mainoo’s experience playing major finals and representing England at the European Championship, showing he can perform on big stages. He added that the club must keep guiding and improving him moving forward.
‎Manchester United will next host Tottenham at Old Trafford, with Carrick hoping to secure a fourth straight league win. Mainoo is likely to feature from the start against Spurs, who are yet to record a Premier League victory in 2026.
