Cristiano Ronaldo Misses Al-Nassr Clash Amid Transfer Window Frustrations
Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of Al-Nassr’s lineup for Monday’s Saudi Pro League encounter with Al-Riyadh. Rumors had circulated before the match that Ronaldo might refuse to play, frustrated by the handling of the club’s operations by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), particularly regarding recent transfer activity.

Al-Nassr officially announced their squad for the clash, and the 40-year-old superstar was notably absent, not even listed among the substitutes. The match pits title contenders Al-Nassr against struggling Al-Riyadh, who currently sit 15th in the league. A win for Al-Nassr would see them draw level on points with league leaders Al-Hilal, although they will have played an extra game compared to their rivals.
Ronaldo’s omission is reportedly linked to dissatisfaction over the January transfer window. A Bola reports that Ronaldo is “unhappy with the way the PIF is managing the club he has represented for three years, especially compared to the treatment given to rival clubs under the same fund.” The forward is also believed to be blocking several transfers, including a potential move for Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad to Al-Hilal, which is affecting other deals, such as N’Golo Kante’s move to Fenerbahce and Youssef En-Nesyri’s anticipated transfer to Al-Ittihad.
Al-Nassr coach Jorge Jesus, who added promising youngster Haydeer Abdulkareem this winter, admitted he had hoped for more reinforcements. “We don’t have any openings for foreign players, and the financial situation at Al-Nassr is not good and doesn’t allow it. I hope that one or two, maybe three players can join us,” he explained. Ronaldo is among a star-studded squad that includes Kingsley Coman, Joao Felix, Sadio Mane, and Inigo Martinez.
The club will undoubtedly be eager to have Ronaldo back in action and hopes to resolve these issues ahead of Friday’s high-profile clash against Karim Benzema’s Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.
