'He Will Be Out for a Long Time': Norwich City Confirm Potential Season-Ending Injury to Man United Loanee Harry Amass
Norwich City have officially announced that on-loan Manchester United defender Harry Amass has picked up an injury that could prematurely end his season, just over a week after completing his move to Carrow Road. The setback comes shortly after the teenager made his debut for the Canaries, leaving his availability for the remainder of the 2024–25 campaign in serious doubt.

The 18-year-old joined Norwich on loan for the rest of the season after spending the opening half of the campaign with fellow Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday. He was recalled by Manchester United before being sent back to the second tier to continue his development with Norwich.
Amass made his first appearance for Norwich in their impressive 2-1 win over league leaders Coventry City. However, he was notably absent from the matchday squad for Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough, prompting concerns over his fitness.
Following that loss, Norwich manager Philippe Clement confirmed the defender had sustained an injury during the closing moments of the team’s final training session ahead of the game. Clement explained that an immediate assessment had not been possible at the time but admitted early indications were worrying.
“Harry, in the dying seconds of training, got an injury,” Clement said. “I didn’t want to speak too much about it straight after training because there was no assessment yet about it. But it looks to be serious and that he will be out for a long time. He’s on loan from United so it’s also important to speak with them first before speaking to the outside world.”
Despite the setback, Clement ruled out returning to the transfer market to find a replacement at left-back, insisting the club would rely on its existing options. “No, we’re not going to take in another left full-back. We will solve it with the squad that’s here because we already have four left full-backs on the payroll,” he added.
Amass remains one of the most highly regarded young prospects at Old Trafford, having made seven first-team appearances for Manchester United last season. His progress, however, has not been without scrutiny.
Former United manager Ruben Amorim previously drew criticism for comments made in December when discussing the development of several academy players, including Amass. “Amass is now struggling in the Championship. Chido is not always a starter in U21s. All these guys played when a lot of people were saying sack the manager,” Amorim said at the time.
Those remarks contrasted sharply with Amass’ performances at Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the season. Despite the club’s struggles, the young defender impressed consistently, winning the Player of the Month awards for both November and December after making 21 appearances and scoring once.
Norwich are expected to provide official clarification on the exact nature of Amass’ injury in the coming days, though initial signs suggest a lengthy absence. Whether he features again this season remains uncertain, dealing a significant blow to a Norwich side that had won four consecutive matches in all competitions prior to Saturday’s defeat.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s immediate focus turns to Sunday’s Premier League encounter with Fulham, knowing that victory would move them back above Chelsea and Liverpool in the race for a top-four finish.
