Liverpool Fear Losing Star as Dominik Szoboszlai Dreams of Real Madrid Surface
Liverpool have reportedly been alerted to the possibility that their star midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai still hopes to one day play for Real Madrid. Even though his current agreement runs through 2028 and the club are actively working on extending his stay, recent public comments from his national team coach could unsettle the situation.
Contract uncertainty surrounds Szoboszlai as his long-term Real Madrid ambition becomes public while Liverpool work to keep their key midfielder.

Reports indicate Real Madrid have taken note after Hungary’s manager revealed that Szoboszlai has long dreamed of joining the Spanish powerhouse. The coach explained that their relationship goes back to the player’s early football development, making him confident in understanding the midfielder’s ambitions. Still, he made it clear that any future move would depend on both the player’s decision and his club’s stance.
The coach also emphasized that staying in England remains very realistic. He pointed out how important Szoboszlai is within the Liverpool squad and described the club as one of football’s biggest global names, suggesting renewal talks could still succeed.
If a move to Spain ever materializes, Szoboszlai may need to settle tensions with Arda Guler. Their rivalry began during an international fixture in March 2025 when Turkey defeated Hungary 3-0. The clash became more heated when Guler mocked Szoboszlai during the match, which later led to a social media exchange referencing the Madrid player’s limited minutes earlier in the season.
The tension continued days later when Szoboszlai posted wedding photos online with his partner, prompting Turkish fans to flood the comment section with images and GIFs of Guler.
Despite speculation, Liverpool are not obligated to sell, particularly with contract discussions ongoing. Szoboszlai has been one of the few consistent performers during a challenging season for the club. Speaking about negotiations, he said there has been no progress yet and stressed that the final decision is not entirely in his control. He added that he enjoys life at the club, the city, the teammates, the stadium atmosphere, and the supporters, while admitting he would like to remain if possible.
The midfielder recently missed a league win over Sunderland because of a one-match suspension after being sent off late in a loss to Manchester City. He returned to action in the FA Cup fourth round against Brighton, scoring as Liverpool secured a comfortable 3-0 victory, with Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah also finding the net.
