Although Michael Carrick is believed to want Rashford back at Old Trafford if he becomes United’s permanent manager, that interest has failed to change the winger’s stance. Rashford is focused on resolving his future as soon as possible, with the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada firmly in mind.
According to the Daily Mirror, Rashford is determined to secure a long-term move away from United during the summer transfer window. Barcelona hold the right to complete a permanent deal, and Rashford has reportedly informed the Catalan giants that he wants to remain at the club.
His commitment to staying in Spain is said to be so strong that he is open to renegotiating the terms of his current agreement if it helps facilitate a permanent transfer.
Speaking about his ambitions, Rashford admitted that remaining at Barcelona is his ultimate goal, but stressed that his motivation goes beyond personal plans. He explained that he is driven by winning trophies and described Barcelona as a club built for success.
The forward also shared positive thoughts about his early months in Spain, revealing that he settled quickly both within the squad and in the city. He said he felt welcomed from the moment he arrived and praised the atmosphere around the club.
Rashford added that his sole focus is helping Barcelona win silverware, noting that while last season was successful, football moves quickly and repeating those achievements is the main objective. He emphasized his satisfaction with the coaching staff and teammates, stating he has no complaints.
Reports also claim Rashford has put down roots in Barcelona by purchasing an apartment in one of the city’s most exclusive areas. Despite his club situation, he has remained an important part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad. This season, he has contributed 10 goals and 10 assists.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has publicly expressed his desire for Rashford to continue progressing. Flick highlighted the winger’s speed and technical ability, while insisting there is still room for improvement in areas such as finishing and final passes.
Flick further stressed the importance of mentality and training attitude, stating that the club wants all players, including Rashford, to constantly push themselves to reach higher levels.
Although Rashford remains under contract with Manchester United until June 2028, there appears to be little appetite on his part to return to England.
United, meanwhile, have undergone managerial changes since Rashford’s departure. After being sidelined under Ruben Amorim, the club is now led by Michael Carrick, who has started his tenure strongly with three consecutive wins. Even so, Carrick’s reported desire to bring Rashford back may go unmet.
Flick has also confirmed ongoing discussions with sporting director Deco regarding Rashford’s future. While praising the forward’s performances, he acknowledged that any permanent deal will take time and careful consideration.
Barcelona’s next match will see Rashford in action against Albacete in the Copa del Rey, followed by a La Liga clash with Mallorca. Flick’s side currently sit top of the table, holding a one-point advantage over Real Madrid.
