‎Mohamed Salah Transfer Latest: Al-Ittihad Push for Liverpool Star in Summer Saudi Pro League Move

‎Mohamed Salah is said to be holding discussions with Saudi Pro League powerhouse Al-Ittihad regarding a possible transfer during the upcoming summer window. Saudi Arabian teams have tracked the Egyptian forward for years, particularly since the Public Investment Fund (PIF) began heavily investing in the domestic league. Salah, who has experienced a tense and challenging campaign with Liverpool, is now being targeted as the club’s headline signing for the year.

‎Despite recently committing his future to Liverpool, Salah is still being linked with a summer exit. The forward was instrumental in Liverpool securing the Premier League title during Arne Slot’s first season managing at Anfield. Last season, Salah delivered 29 league goals — his highest tally since his debut campaign in 2017-18 — along with 18 assists. However, his output has declined significantly this season.
‎Following a contract extension signed in April, Salah has only managed four Premier League goals this campaign. Nevertheless, Saudi interest remains strong. Foot Mercato reports that talks between Salah and Al-Ittihad are already underway, with stronger confidence about reaching an agreement compared to last year. At 33 years old, Salah is reportedly more receptive to a move to the Middle East, where he could become the league’s standout superstar even alongside players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Sadio Mane.
‎Al-Ittihad, one of the four teams owned directly by PIF, have endured a disappointing season while attempting to defend their title. The current champions sit seventh in the standings, trailing league leaders Al-Hilal by 16 points after 20 matches. Their situation worsened during the January transfer window when two key players left the club.
‎Karim Benzema moved to Al-Hilal and is now chasing back-to-back league titles, while N’Golo Kante returned to European football by joining Fenerbahce in Turkey. As a result, Al-Ittihad’s squad now relies heavily on players such as Fabinho, Moussa Diaby, Houssem Aouar, and new signing Youssef En-Nesyri.
‎Reports linking Al-Ittihad with Salah come as no shock, as the club had already identified him as their preferred successor to Benzema recently.
‎Earlier this season, Salah struggled for form, which led Slot to drop him from the starting lineup. After sitting out three matches, Salah publicly criticized Liverpool in December, saying he had been “thrown under the bus.” He also suggested his relationship with Slot had deteriorated and claimed he was unfairly blamed for the team’s inconsistent performances.
‎Shortly after, Salah departed for the Africa Cup of Nations. Since returning, he has been restored to Slot’s starting team and has featured from kickoff in all five matches since coming back. During that run, he scored once, finding the net in Liverpool’s 6-0 Champions League victory over Qarabag.
‎While uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future will likely dominate headlines for the rest of the season, Liverpool must stay focused on their immediate goals. The club is currently battling in a highly competitive race to secure Champions League qualification.
‎Liverpool have slipped outside the top four after winning just once in their last seven Premier League matches. The run included four consecutive draws followed by defeats against Bournemouth and Manchester City. The team now sits five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. That gap could stretch to eight points if United defeat West Ham United on Tuesday before Liverpool face Sunderland on Thursday.
‎Slot is already dealing with several injury absences, including Alexander Isak, Joe Gomez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Conor Bradley. Additionally, Dominik Szoboszlai will miss one match after receiving a late red card during Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City.
