'He’s Free to Go': Cesc Fabregas Handed Approval to Take Over as Chelsea manager

Cesc Fabregas has been given permission to pursue a managerial switch to Chelsea FC, after Como president Mirwan Suwarso confirmed the club will not prevent his departure.

Following the removal of Liam Rosenior, Chelsea have placed their former midfielder high on their shortlist for the vacant role at Stamford Bridge. Despite Fabregas holding a minority ownership stake at the Italian side, the situation now appears straightforward for a possible return to West London.

Como’s leadership has made it clear they will not obstruct any move. Suwarso explained that the club respects Fabregas’ ambitions and does not claim control over his future, opening the door for him to take the next step in his coaching career.

The London club are currently navigating a difficult period, seeking their third permanent manager during the 2025–26 campaign. Fabregas’ history with Chelsea, including two Premier League title wins as a player, strengthens his candidacy as they aim to stabilize the team.

Speaking publicly, Suwarso emphasized a practical approach, stating that the club prioritizes the individual’s happiness while acknowledging they cannot restrict his choices. He also suggested that a move abroad, rather than to a domestic competitor, aligns with their interests.

Since retiring in 2023, Fabregas has rapidly built a strong reputation in management. After guiding Como to promotion, he has taken them to an impressive fifth-place standing in Serie A. His achievements were recognized by the Italian Football Federation, which awarded him the Bearzot Award for Coach of the Year.

Although Fabregas previously indicated commitment to his project in Lombardy, interest from Chelsea appears to have changed the equation. The club’s hierarchy reportedly values his football philosophy and sees him as a key figure capable of restoring authority within the squad.

With Como’s stance now clarified, Chelsea are in a position to accelerate discussions. While his dual role as both shareholder and coach presents a technical consideration, Suwarso’s comments suggest there are no major barriers to completing the transition.

If Fabregas ultimately decides against the move, alternatives such as Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva remain potential options.
