'Inflated Ego':Dugarry Targets Lamine Yamal Following Atletico Madrid Defeat

‎The fallout from Barcelona’s Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid has brought sharp criticism, with Christophe Dugarry delivering a strong verdict on Lamine Yamal.
‎Appearing on RMC Sport, the former striker did not hold back in his assessment. He challenged the young winger’s recent displays and public confidence, arguing that such a profile must be justified by consistent success on the pitch.

‎While Yamal opened the scoring early in the decisive quarter-final clash, Dugarry insisted that his influence quickly faded when it mattered most. He dismissed suggestions that the teenager belongs among football’s top-tier talents, pointing instead to players like Ousmane Dembele at Paris Saint-Germain as a benchmark he has not yet reached.
‎According to Dugarry, the forward’s moment came and passed without further impact, which he used to argue that Yamal is not a serious contender for honours like the Ballon d'Or at this stage. He acknowledged the player’s ability but maintained that he remains far from the game’s top bracket.
‎The criticism extended beyond performance. Dugarry suggested that the attention surrounding Yamal has affected his attitude, describing it as an inflated ego. He even linked Barcelona’s European exit to the player’s perceived shortcomings, stating he was unconvinced the team deserved to advance based on that display.
‎Yet statistically, Yamal’s campaign has been highly productive. With 23 goals and 18 assists across 44 appearances, he has been central to Barcelona’s domestic dominance. Managed by Hansi Flick, the team holds a nine-point advantage in La Liga and aims to extend it against Celta Vigo in their upcoming fixture on April 22.
