Why Real Madrid’s Bus Left Vinicius Junior Behind After Bayern Munich Defeat

Real Madrid’s exit from the Champions League against Bayern Munich came with an unusual moment off the pitch, as Vinicius Junior was not on the team bus leaving the Allianz Arena.

Following the 4-3 defeat in Germany, which sealed a 6-4 aggregate elimination, the squad departed the stadium shortly after full-time. However, the Brazilian forward remained behind due to mandatory post-match obligations.

Vinicius, who completed the entire match, was randomly selected for an anti-doping test. These procedures are compulsory and must be carried out immediately after games, often taking an unpredictable amount of time. As the process extended longer than expected, the club opted to send the main group ahead to the airport while the winger arranged alternative transport later.

Although no official explanation was issued regarding the delay, FIFA’s strict anti-doping framework clarifies the situation. Players are required to comply fully with testing protocols, and failure to do so can lead to serious consequences.

Sanctions for violations vary depending on the circumstances. Intentional use of performance-enhancing substances typically results in a four-year suspension, while unintentional cases can still bring bans of up to two years. In more severe scenarios, penalties may extend even further.

The regulations also go beyond substance detection. Athletes risk punishment for refusing tests, ignoring instructions from officials, or failing to provide accurate whereabouts information. Additional breaches, such as facilitating banned substances or interfering with procedures, can trigger the harshest disciplinary measures, including lifetime bans.

With the European campaign now over, Vinicius Junior turns his focus back to domestic competition. Real Madrid are set to host Deportivo Alaves next Tuesday as they continue their La Liga push.

With seven matches left and a nine-point deficit to Barcelona, the Brazilian’s role will be crucial. After a difficult night in Munich, his performance could prove key in determining whether the team can still salvage success this season.
